“Start Fires” is the first official release between Tichi and AIVA ASTRA after years of collaboration. Tichi has produced and mixed many songs for AIVA, and at their first in-person session the creativity exploded - giving life to the potent bass music track “Start Fires”. With both artists going through a transitional period in their brands, this song represented a new beginning for their artistic endeavors - and spawned the orchestral soundscape that encapsulates the rebirth many others have felt coming out of the pandemic. The lead violin melody was inspired by the “I Got 5 On It (Tethered Mix)” that appeared in the trailer for Jordan Peele’s “Us”. This shaped both a haunting and powerful tone that drives the composition of the track. Tichi’s bass music roots lead to the development of a dynamic and fierce drop, while AIVA’s extensive experience in poetry and songwriting allowed the duo to craft a simple yet effective storyline that wonderfully builds tension through the buildups and releases in a way that makes you want to shout from the mountains in a bellow of success and glory. The overall theme of the song is perfectly encapsulated by the line, “When it all comes crashing down, what will you do? Start fires!”
